Flight of the Carcass 1999/ revised 2001

This piece is based on a theme I wrote in 1987. I had no concept in mind when reviving this idea, but after I varied the theme in different ways, and experimented what would work best with the structure, the overall idea had a mysterious and intense character. So in keeping the intensity, the piece is primarily rhythmically driven more so than melodically. The development of the theme, on the other hand, gives the piece its mysterious character. There are many sections, and each acts as a continuing development from the previous. After the last section, it finally segues into the coda. One could view each of these sections as different stages of the "flight," leaving the listener to wonder what the Carcass' final destination is.
